大山顕：団地より愛を込めて…

「都営横川五丁目アパート」。あなたには、この団地の素晴らしさが分かるだろうか？

日本国内なら、どこにでもある「団地」。そのほとんどが何の変哲もなく、誰にも注目されることもなく、そこに何十年と立っている。しかし、世の中にはそんなものにも面白みを見つけ出す素晴らしい人達が存在する。今日は、写真集「団地の見究」を発表したばかりで、団地ラヴァーズのためのウェブサイト「住宅都市整理公団」の総裁でもあるフォトグラファーの大山顕（おおやま・けん）さんに、団地について熱く語って頂いた。

大山さんは、どのような理由で団地に興味を持ち始められたのですか？

きっかけは特にないんですよ。しいて言えば、大学在学中に町づくりの勉強をしていて、街を開発するという課題で、その街をとことんリサーチすることがあったんですが、ある時、街って見られていないな、とふと思ったんです。中でも団地は最たるもので、こんなに巨大なのに、誰にも見られてない。団地って華やかなイメージの時代もありましたが、今はなんとなく暗いイメージがありますよね。でも、そのイメージを省いたら色々な形が見えてくることに気づいたんです。

初心者向け入門団地、「豊島五丁目団地」。

これらの写真は、真正面から撮られたものばかりですが、それは無駄なものを排除するためですか？

そうですね。少しでも見上げたりすると、団地は物語を語り出してしまうんです。でも、正面の写真をカタログのように並べると、形だけ見えてくる瞬間があるんですよ。それが写真の面白さでもあると思います。

では、団地の種類は様々ですが、大山さんはどのような団地に魅力を感じられるのですか？

団地って言うと普通4階建てくらいかと思いますが、僕は高層が好きです。低層に比べて、高層は色々な建築家が作っているので種類も豊富です。こんなに大きいのに、それ自体の奇妙さが端的に現れるのも高層なんですよ。

素朴な質問ですが、団地はマンションに比べて遥かに無機質ですよね。それは何故だと思われます？

団地はインフラなんですよ。マンションは建築だけど、団地は建築と土木の境界みたいな感じです。市場価値とかじゃなくて、住むためのインフラであり、社会資本だから、変に小洒落ていないんですよ。

ん〜、なるほど。では、団地初心者の皆さんは、まずどのように団地を楽しめば良いでしょうか？

団地の魅力は皆一緒で分かりづらいところですが、まずは20棟ぐらい撮ってみるのがいいと思います。建築の勉強でもそうですが、歴史や意味から入るんじゃ面白くないですよね。それより、「ここが同じだ」「ここにでっぱりがある」と、形から入っても、そのうち色々な疑問が湧いてくると思いますよ。

では、写真集の中からオススメの団地を教えてください。

宇喜田第二住宅がいいですね。この真ん中のおできがいい！（笑）

地味な色使い、造形、規模共に、団地の中の団地と言える「宇喜田第二住宅」。

こういう意味不明のでっぱりを写真集の中でも「おでき」と呼ばれていますが、これは一体何なんでしょうね？

何かはどうでもいいんですよ！！おできはおできなんです！！

すみませんでした…。

種明かしをすると、これは上層階と下層階で水道水の圧力調整をするための中間水槽なんです。マンションだったらまず全体を描いて、それに収まるように中間水槽の場所を考えるんですが、これは中間水槽は必要だからここにつけられている。それは素晴らしいですよね…。

では、こういうのはあまりお好きではない？

独得の色使い。千葉県の「村上団地3-14」。

うーん、いかがなものかなぁと…。だってこれ、どうかしてるじゃないですか。でも、いじらしいですね…。高級タワー型マンションなんかは、ファサードを大理石で貼られたりとかして、女性で言うところのエビちゃんなんですが、これはお母さんがいない間に隠れて口紅を塗ってしまった小学生みたいで…。

おっしゃりたいことはよく分かります…。個人的にはこちらが気に入っているんですが、どうでしょう？

大山さん曰く、テクスチャーが素晴らしい「大谷田一丁目団地2号棟」。

これは、まるで大根でもおろすかのような、ごつごつとしたテクスチャーがいいですね。この規模でこういうのは、なかなかないんです。アクセス方式がこうだからそのままこうした、という結果が素晴らしい！

バルコニーの横は歩けるようになっているんでしょうか？

これは下の廊下の屋根で、二階おきにしかないスキップフロアというものですね。ごつごつとした感じを階段室まわりのデザインなどで緩和しようとしている点が、好感が持てますよね…。

団地の見方が徐々に分かってきました！ところで、写真集の発売に合わせて、まもなく世田谷ものづくり学校のIIDギャラリーで「大団地展」を開催されますね。最後に、展覧会を訪れる人々に何かメッセージをお願いします。

この展示では、写真を並べて横のボードに詳細を書く、一般的な展示のフォーマットを装っているんですが、よく読むと「なんじゃこりゃ」ってことが書いてあります。ですので、皆さん、笑いに来てください。
