東京の建築ストリート：表参道パート2

表参道を少し超えた場所にある「ザ・ジュエルズ・オブ・アオヤマ」。2002年竣工、設計は光井純＆アソシエーツ建築設計事務所。この建物の手前には、フランス人建築家、ブルーノ・モワナーに設計されたカルティエ南青山店も。ここは本物の建築ストリート！

今日のPingMagは、3月12日に掲載した「東京の建築ストリート：表参道パート1」に続く、パート2！前回は、昨年オープンしたばかりの商業施設「GYRE」から、2002年に竣工したルイ・ヴィトン表参道店までを紹介した。今回はその先の「トッズ表参道ブティック」から、青山通りとの交差点を超え根津美術館方面に向かう道までの建築物をみていきたいと思う。

6. トッズ表参道ブティック

1979年に創立されたイタリアのシューズ・ブランド「Tod’s」の表参道店は、日本人建築家の伊東豊雄（いとう・とよお）氏による設計。2004年に竣工したこちらの建物は、むき出しになったようなコンクリートとガラスの二種類の素材で出来た外観が特徴だ。目の前のケヤキ並木の枝が先にいく程どんどん分かれるように、この建築物の表面の模様も上に向かう程、細かくなっている。模様を作り出しているガラスの大きさが全て異なっているため、ガラスの設置には大変な苦労もあったようだが、その甲斐もあって今では表参道の美しい建築群を代表する存在になった。

7. ハナエモリビル

トッズ表参道ブティックの2軒先、表参道に並ぶ美しい建築物の中でも一番歴史が古い「ハナエモリビル」。今から30年前の1978年に竣工、設計は代々木競技場、都庁ビルなども手がけた丹下健三（たんげ・けんぞう）氏によるもの。まるで遊園地のミラーハウスのようなその建物は、ケヤキ並木だけでなく、街行く人、通りの反対側の建物までも写し出している。この建築物は、著名な建築家が設計するファッションブランドのビルの先駆けになったものとも言えるだろう。

8. ONE表参道

表参道を挟み、ハナエモリビルのちょうど反対側に見える、茶色の建築物「ONE表参道」。2003年に竣工したこの建築物を設計を担当した隈研吾（くま・けんご）氏は、丹下健三氏の設計による国立競技場を10歳の時に見て、かなりの影響を受けたそう。自分の作品を「自然を囲うフレームのようなもの」と語る隈氏は、ここでも自然素材を使い、目の前のケヤキ並木との絶妙なコントラストを生み出した。ちなみに隈氏は、昨年、東京ミッドタウン内に移転したサントリー美術館や、無印良品の「窓の家」なども手がけている。

9. コム・デ・ギャルソン青山

表参道と青山通りがぶつかる交差点をサマンサ・タバサの方へと渡り、さらに1分ほど直進してみよう。日本人建築家によるシャープな建築物が多い中、異色な雰囲気を放っているのが、この「コム・デ・ギャルソン青山」。設計を手がけたのは、イギリスの建築家集団、フューチャー・システムズ。まるで宇宙船のような「ローズ・クリケット・グラウンド」のメディアセンターの設計をも手がけた彼らは、イギリスの建築界で最も権威ある賞と言われるスターリング賞を1998年に受賞している。この店舗設計には、コム・デ・ギャルソンのデザイナーである川久保玲氏やインテリア・デザイナーの河崎隆雄氏も関わり、建物には珍しい青という色を使って、コム・デ・ギャルソン独自の世界を表現することに成功した。

10. プラダブティック青山店

最後を飾るのは、コム・デ・ギャルソンから数軒先で、ひと際目立つガラスの建築物。そう、スイスの建築家デュオ、ヘルツォーク＆ド・ムーロンが設計を手がけ、2003年に竣工した「プラダブティック青山店」だ。その圧倒的な存在感は、目の前を通り過ぎようとしても、無視することが不可能なほど。表面がところどころ膨らんでいるように見えるのは、菱形のガラスに、平面のものだけでなく、曲面加工されたものも使用されているからだそう。プラダをより知的で洗練されたイメージにしたこの建築物は、間違いなく21世紀の東京の建築物を代表する存在と言えるだろう。

とにかく美しい、プラダブティック青山店。冒頭で紹介した「ザ・ジュエルズ・オブ・アオヤマ」は、プラダの2軒先にあるので、そちらもお見逃しなく。
