Mavo：遊び上手な大人たちのために

日本で最もタブーとも言われる「性」をテーマにしたプロダクトのシリーズ「Honey Trap」。普段は空間をデザインするMAVO（マーボ）のタカハシマサユキ氏が、先月青山で発表したのは、銃をかたどったコンドームケースや、棺の形のサニタリーボックスだった。本日は、MAVO初の展覧会で発表されたその美しい「Honey Trap」の作品を振り返りながら、皆さんと一緒に「性」について考えてみたい…。

タカハシさん、まず「Honey Trap」についてご説明して頂けますか？

ある時から、空間だけで表現しきれない部分に挑戦したいという気持ちが自然と湧いてたのです。そこで、人間の根幹にある「性」をテーマに「避妊」「セックスレス」「生理」に焦点を当て、それらの問題を解決出来るようなプロダクトを「Honey Trap」という物語を通して見る人に分かりやすく伝えられないかと考えました。

そこで、まず人の心に届かせるために、これらの作品をファッションアイテムに近づけようと考えました。展示場所となった「JAM HOME MADE & ready made」はジュエリーショップですが、僕の作品もジュエリーのように、不可欠ではありませんがあればより楽しくなれるというものです。

「Honey Trap」は冷戦時代に行われた色仕掛けの諜報活動の名前だそうですが、今回発表されたものはどのような作品なのでしょうか？

1つめの作品は、全体の物語のプロローグとなるコンドームケースです。僕は避妊に対して、コンドームのパッケージをデザインするよりは、それをどう持ち運ぶのかという環境作りに対して興味がありました。そこで、「身を守る」という行為においてシンボリックなアイコンである銃の中に、コンドームを入れました。（タイトルイメージ参照）

ずいぶん精巧に作られていますね。

ブローニングM1910という、ルパン三世の峰不二子が使用しているモデルが元になっています。小さいのに優秀な銃として知られていますね。

次はクッションのシリーズです。1つめの「Queen Save the Man」には磁石でマスクが付いていて、外してマスクプレイが出来るようにもなっています。作品名はイギリス国歌の「God Save the Queen」をもじって、女性は女王様のようになって男性を救ってあげて、という意味でつけました。

ここに描かれている女性はどなたですか？

ポンパドゥール夫人です。この方はルイ15世の公妾で、政治をも動かしていた元祖ハニートラップとも呼べる女性なんですよ。

次は「Bride in Black」（黒衣装の花嫁）という作品名のクッションです。僕は女性が一番美しく見えるのは花嫁姿だと思うのですが、女性にはその気持ちを忘れないで欲しいという意味を込めて、横からレースの部分に腕を入れるとブーケを持っているように見えるデザインにしました。

そして3つめは「じゃじゃ馬ならし」。馬のしっぽのようなムチを装着したクッションです。これは取り外して下着に付けることも出来ますし、ムチの先端はリングになっていますから、指にはめてビシビシ叩くことも出来ます。

作品は全て1点物だそうですが、ご自分の手作りですか？

基本は、デザインを渡してプロの方に制作してもらいましたが、マスクとムチは自作です。ムチのヒモ部分は、本物の馬の毛やウィッグの毛も使って、色々と研究したんですよ。あとは長さを調節するために、切る前に自分で一度付けて鏡の前に立ってみたりもしましたね（笑）。

想像してしまいました…。物語の最後を飾るのは、高級感あるこのサニタリーボックスですね。

コンンドームをして戯れた後、望まない妊娠なのであれば、最後はちゃんと生理がやって来る…という流れです。これは生理用品の墓場として棺の形にしました。現状のサニタリーボックスのデザインは隠す方へと変わっていますが、これは堂々と置いておける、隠す必要のないデザインになっています。

サニタリーボックスに十字架が付いていることで多少議論を招くかと思いますが、見た人の反応はいかがでしたか？

やはり国籍による反応の違いは興味深かったですね。生理用品を十字架の付いたものに入れるということに関して、嫌な顔をする人もいれば、笑う人もました。僕達は十字架をファッションの一部としか捉えていないので、そこは宗教の違いだと思います。

    展示会場では、ひとつひとつ説明して頂いただいた上に、現物を手に取り真近に見る事が出来ました。

    パッと見は、お洒落な大人の玩具。
    しかしそれをハニートラップというフィルタを通す事で、これらのプロダクトを使用する場面は全て、
    「人の命に関わる、ある意味大袈裟に言えば-命懸け-の行為である」
    というメッセージを発信している様に感じましたが、実際はどうなんでしょう？

    同じ業界の仕事をしている私にとっては、デザインの着想という部分で、非常に勉強になりました。
