お年寄りのための遊具

千代田区の西神田公園で遊ぶ子どもたち。実は、この遊具は高齢者の介護予防として設置されたもの。

日本では高齢化社会が急速に進み、2000年から施行された介護保険制度では「要介護」と認定されるお年寄りが年々増えてきている。少しでも多くのお年寄りに健康であってもらうため、各自治体では様々な取り組みが進められていることを、皆さんはご存知だろうか？千代田区にある西神田公園、東郷元帥記念公園は、高齢者のための遊具が設置された「介護予防公園」として知られている。今日は、千代田区からの依頼を受けて遊具を制作したタカオ株式会社の唐川さんにお話を伺いながら、お年寄りの健康の為に作られた「介護予防遊具」について紹介しよう。

ではまず、どのような経緯でタカオ株式会社が介護予防遊具を制作することになったのか教えて頂けますか？

今から3年前の2004年に、千代田区は「東京都介護予防推進モデル地区」に指定されたんです。元々、千代田区では室内で指先を動かしたりしてぼけ予防をするというようなプログラムを行っていたのですが、屋外で体を動かすようなものはありませんでした。そこで、公園で何か出来ないだろうかと依頼を受けたのがきっかけです。

西神田公園に設置された介護予防遊具「上半身ツイスト」。椅子に座って、上半身をまわして体をのばすことで、腰回りの筋肉の柔軟性、バランスを向上させる。

「上下ステップ」。高さが違うステップを歩くことによって足でその感覚を覚え転倒を予防し、手すりを持たないで歩くと、バランスが向上する。

「上半身アーチ」。体を横に曲げることによって、脇腹を中心に、上半身の筋肉の柔軟性とバランスを向上させる。

タカオ株式会社では、様々な公園遊具を作っていますが、一般的な遊具以外のものも以前から作られていたのでしょうか？

「健康遊具」と呼ばれるものは、何十年も前から作っていました。しかし、今回は高齢者向けということで、腹筋や腕立てをするものではなく、元々あった健康遊具を少しアレンジして軽度な運動ができるようなものにしたので、新しく「介護予防遊具」という名前をつけました。

遊具を作るにあたっての健康上の効果については、どなたかのアドバイスを得ているのでしょうか？

体のどの部分に効果的かということは、東京都老人総合研究所のアドバイスを元にしています。

千代田区の介護予防公園以後、介護予防遊具の需要は増えていますか？

西神田公園が出来てからというもの、NHKをはじめとする様々なメディアで報道されました。その反響もあって、予算がある役所からの依頼などは去年ぐらいまでどんどん増えていましたが、今は落ち着き始めています。

「階段とスロープ」。スロープで上って、平面とは違う足首の角度を知り、階段を下りることで、転倒を予防する。

「健康ウォーキング」。大小二つの踏み竹があります。小さい方は、ツチフマズで踏んで血行を良くし、大きい方は足をあげて上を歩くことによってつまずく転倒を予防する。

高齢者が使用するということで、制作上、気をつけたことはありますか？

ステップにゴムをつけて滑らないようにしたり、各遊具に解説板をつけたりました。他にも、公園の入り口に全体の配置図を設置して、いくつかのコース案内も掲載しました。

西神田公園の1年後、東郷元帥記念公園に介護予防遊具を設置した時は、芸大の講師や千代田区の方も交えて公園に合う遊具の色を協議したり、西神田公園では「ステップストレッチ」のようにカタカナの名前がついている遊具を、東郷元帥記念公園では高齢者にもすぐ分かるような「足のばし」など名前に変えました。


「肋木」。ぶら下がって、背中、肩、腰の筋肉をのばし、和らげる効果がある。

ひとつひとつにこのような解説板が付いている。

小さな子供達にも人気のある「ステップストレッチ」は、東郷元帥記念公園では「足のばし」という名前が付いている。足を乗せてのばすことで、太もも、ふくらはぎ、足首、腰の筋肉の柔軟性とバランスを向上させ、体が固くなることによる腰痛を防ぐ。
