月影屋のパンクな浴衣

もうすぐ八月、花火のシーズン。花火を見に行くなら、やはり浴衣を着ていきたいところだ。この時期は浴衣専門店だけでなく、デパートの期間限定のショップなどでも簡単に浴衣が手に入るが、浴衣を着る人が年々増えてゆく中で、どうにかして他人の浴衣と差をつけたいと考える人も少なくはないだろう。先日、本格的な夏が始まる前に個性的な浴衣を見つけようと街をブラついていたPingMagは、この夏とても忙しくなりそうな浴衣デザイナー、月影屋の重田なつきさんを捕まえた！

重田さんのデザインされる浴衣の柄は、一般的なものとは随分異なりますね。デザインのインスピレーションは、普段どこから得ているのでしょうか？

基本的に、毎年自分が欲しいものが何かを考えます。例えば、今年は豹柄が着たくて作ってみたのですが、そこからこのロックなテイストに似合うものを探っていきます。その雰囲気を持っているアイテムとしては、今年の新作の中ではこのキスマークの帯などがありますね。

伝統的な浴衣には花模様やかすりが多いですが、それに関してはどう思っていらっしゃるのですか？

伝統的なものが好きか嫌いかとかじゃなくて、伝統的なものの中に気に入った柄もあれば、嫌いな柄もある。見てカッコ良ければ好きだし、気に入らなかったら嫌い、という感じです。浴衣を作る時には、昔からの職人さんにデザインの型を彫ってもらっているんですが、それも伝統的なものが好きだからという訳じゃなくて、その作り方の方が出来上がりがカッコ良くなるからなんですよ。

ところで、重田さんは帯のデザインも手がけられますよね。帯のデザインをする時は、機能よりも飾りとしてのデザインを重視していらっしゃいますか？

両方ですね。タイシルクの帯が多いんですよ。あと、日本製の着物用の生地も使ってます。値段が高いけれど、締めやすいから使ってるんです。それに、シルクはポリエステルよりも見た目がいいですよね。だから、機能性とカッコ良さと、両方を考えて作っています。

レザーや蛇皮の帯も作られていらっしゃいますが、見た目はかなり重そうですね…。

蛇皮は軽いんですよ。レザーは硬いんですが、締めている時に見える部分だけレザーを使って、後ろは着物用の生地を使っています。だから締めやすいんです。

浴衣を作るには、かなりの手間がかかるそうですね。

うちのこだわりは縫製ですね。デザインも重要ですが、縫製も一番って言っていいぐらい重要ですね。ですから、あまり大量には作れないんですよ。多少お手伝いしてくれる人はいるのですが、ほとんど自分で行っています。帯のラインストーンなども、全部自分で一個ずつ手で付けているんです。ひとつの帯のデザインにつき普通10本ぐらい作りますが、手がかかるデザインの時は、一本しか作らないものもあるんです。

着物や浴衣の文化が消えていくとよく言われていることに関しては、どう思われますか？


「ベルばら」などの漫画からヒントを得た布デザイン。

6、7年前は確かに少し減りましたが、浴衣はまた盛り上がって来て、今は様々な種類のものが手に入りますよね。ですので、最近では、この文化は消えないんじゃないかなって思っています。ただ、柄のデザインをする時、私は絵を描いて、その絵のままに職人さんに型を彫ってもらうんですね。そして、シルクスクリーンみたいに染め分けるんです。でも細かいデザインだと、その絵の型を彫るのは、何十年もやっているベテランの職人さんしかできないんですよ。ベテランの職人さんはもうすぐ退職されますが、若い人達の技術的な成長が間に合うのかどうかが心配ですね。

伝統的なものがなくなると困るというよりも、私がデザインしたものを、今の職人さんは「これぐらいなら、僕が彫れるよ」って言ってくれるんです。でも、もしデザインを出して、「それは僕には出来ない」って断られたら、その浴衣は私が作りたくても作れない。それは困りますね。伝統的なものがなくなるなんてことはあまり考えないですが、私が作りたいものが出来なくなるのは困ります。技術のある職人さんがいなくなることで、デザイナーの自由もなくなってしまうんですよね。


この型の準備は経験が豊富な職人さんの手でも、一週間程かかったという。

こんな細かい型を作るのに必要な技術が消えていくのは本当に残念。

浴衣の楽しみ方について、何か特別なアイディアはありますか？

洋服と全く同じですね。自分でカッコ良いと思うものを組み合わせて、皆に「それカッコいいね」と言われたら気分がいいでしょう？洋服も和服も、みんなそうですよ。
