誰でも作れるペーパークラフト！

紙を切って折って、組み立てると、素敵なペーパークラフトが出来上がる。特別な技術を必要としないペーパークラフトは、ゆっくりじっくり、自分のペースで作れて楽しめる。昆虫や動物などの簡単なものからカラクリ玩具や建築模型などの難しい物まで、数をこなす度に少しずつ難易度を上げて挑戦するのもまた面白い。今日のPingMagでは、現在、「みんなで作る！集文社ペーパークラフトの世界」という展示会を開催している原宿のアシストオンを訪れ、そこで展示販売されている素晴らしいペーパークラフトの数々についてお話しよう。

ペーパークラフトとは、作品のパーツが紙にプリントされていて、それを線に沿って切り取り、貼付け、そして組み合わせていく。紙とは言え、白鳥や建築模型の精巧な作りは、まさに圧巻。

今回、アシストオンに展示されているのは、集文社から発売されているペーパークラフト。集文社は、世界で最も著名な建築家の一人、ル・コルビュジェが設計した「小さな家」の日本語版を手がけるなど、建築関連の書籍を多く取り扱っている。その一方、社長の趣味でもあったペーパークラフトを、より多くの人に楽しんでもらいたい、と様々な分野のペーパークラフトを制作し始めたそう。集文社のモットーは、一過性のもではない、建築物のようにずっと残る集文社しか作れない物を作っていくことで、今では、その数は150点にも及ぶそう。それでは、これからその素晴らしいペーパークラフトの数々を紹介しよう。

生き物編

まずは、種類も豊富な生き物から。カブトムシなどの昆虫や、象やキリンなどの動物、イルカ、ペンギン、恐竜まで、本当に様々！中にはお風呂やプールで遊べる、水に強いペーパークラフトもある。

建築物編

建築を学ぶ人にとってペーパークラフトは、とても重要な建築資料の一つ。今では目にする事のない建築物をペーパークラフトで再現できるからだ。例えば、江戸時代の傑作と言われる「桂離宮」。実際の桂離宮には、現在一般公開されていない部屋があるが、もちろんこのペーパークラフトでは全てを見る事が可能。

ブリキのオモチャ編

1950年代に日本で人気の高かったブリキのオモチャを、誰もが楽しめるようにとペーパークラフトにしたものがこちら。今では入手困難なブリキのオモチャだが、ペーパークラフトとして再現されたことで、その味や歴史に少し触れることが出来るようになった。また、このシリーズは、北原照久のおもちゃ博物館の館長、北原照久氏のコレクションの中から選ばれて作られたものなのだとか。

こちらは、先程の北原コレクションの制作を担当されたペーパーエンジニア、坂啓典氏がこれまで制作してきたカラクリ・ペーパークラフトの仕組みをまとめた本「からくりの素」。物が動く基本的な仕組みが分かりやすく解説されたこの本には、10種類のモデルも収録。

キャラクター編

こちらは子供達が大好きなキャラクターもの。子供達とコミュニケーションを取りながら、ペーパークラフトを楽しんでもらうのも、集文社がペーパークラフトを発売している目的のひとつだとか。

それでは、早速PingMagもペーパークラフトに挑戦！

…という訳で、私達が選んだのは、簡単に作れる「すぐできるカエル」と、「ムーミン谷の仲間たち」。

一方、こちらはムーミン谷の仲間、リトル・ミー。カエルとは違い、細かい線を切る作業や糊付けが沢山…。特にミーの頭部の組み立ては、なかなか大変。しかし、作っていると、子供の頃に夢中で何かを作っていたことを思い出し、改めてものを作る楽しさを実感できる。

他にも、ヤマハやキャノンからも様々な種類のペーパークラフトがあるので、皆さんもこの機会に、ペーパークラフト作りを試してみてはいかがでしょうか？また、今回ご協力頂いた神宮前のアシストオンでは5/31迄、展示会が開かれているので、ぜひ足を運んでみて下さい。実際のペーパークラフトを目で見ると、その凄さには驚かされますよ！
