「FUROSHIKI」展

奥村 靫正によってデザインされた現代の風呂敷

「袋は結構です」。このコトバを一日何回口にするだろう？コンビニで飲み物を買った時、スーパーでいくつかのリンゴを買った時。その度に私達は一瞬しか使わないレジ袋を貰っては捨て、また貰っては捨てる。1年間にゴミとなるレジ袋は、なんと国内だけで60万トン。深刻化するレジ袋問題を解決する為に、現在“風呂敷”が注目されている。4月3日より、東京・銀座のクリエイションギャラリーG8で行われている「FUROSHIKI」展では、アーティストや著名人３０人が、“包んだ時の美しさ”、“運ぶ美しさ”をテーマに、誰もが持って歩きたくなるような、現代の風呂敷デザインに挑戦した。

30人がデザインした現代の風呂敷

日本人が昔から袋代わりに愛用してきた風呂敷。子供の頃、久しぶりに遊びに来た親戚のお婆ちゃんが、鶴やら桜模様の風呂敷で包まれた“お土産”をゆっくりと開く時、何とも言えないドキドキ感を覚えたことはない？このたった一枚の布が、どんな形の物でもクルリと包んでしまうことがどれだけスゴイかなんて、その頃は気づきもしなかったけど、今回のこの展覧会はその風呂敷のスゴさを私に教えてくれる素敵な機会になった。

コスチューム・アーティストのひびのこづえは、風呂敷が物だけではなく、傷ついた地球をも包めるだろうと語り、沢山の動物が描かれた風呂敷をデザイン。そして、彼女がその風呂敷で包んだ物は「まごころ」。風呂敷を使うことで、ゴミの量が減らせるなんて、それは確かに地球への真心だよね。

花見のための「はれ」の装いを、一層華やかに包み込む風呂敷としてデザインしたのは、グラフィックデザイナーの勝井三雄。四隅がそれぞれの反対色で構成されているというその風呂敷に包まれた重箱は、お花見のワクワク感をさらにかき立てそう！

「一枚の布である風呂敷は、言わずもがな、人の側のソフト、つまり脳を使う道具である。人の側の工夫により無限にその使い方は発見されていく。世の中にすでにあるソフトというものに頼りすぎると、人間どんどん馬鹿になる。馬鹿になると、環境にも良くないことを平気でする。風呂敷と環境問題を、そのような角度で考えてみた。チューインガムのパッケージはゴミになる。せめてゴミになる前に、風呂敷の柄のために働いてもらった。」と語るグラフィックデザイナーの佐藤卓は、自らデザインしたチューインガムの15個入りの箱を包むための風呂敷を制作。ガムの側面を使って捺印したというその「ガム印」は、今までの風呂敷にはなかったかなり斬新なデザイン！そして、その風呂敷に包まれたチューインガムは、まるでアート作品のよう。

包むものによってその形を変える風呂敷が「形」を拒絶していると語ったのは、建築家の隅研吾。…なるほど！土という形のない物のテキスチャーでデザインされた風呂敷は、テキスチャーと同じ土を包む事で、今までの風呂敷の在り方を覆した。

アーティストでアート・ディレクターでもあるタナカノリユキは、風呂敷が現在のメディアやファッションになるようにとデザイン。確かに、生まれ変わった風呂敷は、もはやお婆ちゃんだけの物とは言わせない！

「人は生まれて、恋をして、やがて老いて、死んでゆく」と語り、恋愛から死に至るまでのどんな服装にでも合う黒をメインの色にチョイスしたイラストレーターの宇野亜喜良の風呂敷は、とても切なくて、とてもロマンティック。この風呂敷を使う人に起こるかもしれない様々なドラマが今にも見えてきそう。

この他にも、会場には今までに見た事のない素敵な風呂敷が沢山！この展覧会をきっかけに、風呂敷は繰り返し使えるだけじゃなく、どんな物でも包むことが出来る優れものってことを再確認できた。そして、日本人が昔から愛用してきた風呂敷に今再び注目することで、みんなにとってもゴミ問題や地球温暖化を考えるきっかけになったらいいな。

    風呂敷って、ここ数年
    ひじょうに気になっています。
    この間も仕事で初対面のかたに
    「フロシキシキ」というビニール素材でできた
    「名刺（カード）入れ」を紹介されましたし、
    老舗の風呂敷メーカー
    美濃部さんの「ARCHITEXTURE」という
    試みもおもしろいです。
    ここで取り上げられている
    「FUROSHIKI」たちが、素材に依存せず
    「フロシキ」という概念で広まると、
    デザインの分野にとっては
    すごくおもしろい動きになるだろうなあと
    おもいましたー。

    そうですね、デザインや素材を従来の物と変えることで、その物自体の在り方にもっと深い意味が生まれたり、面白い存在になったりすると、とても刺激的ですよね。
