Braun展レクチャー

六本木のアクシスギャラリーにて「ブラウン展 - 形を超えたデザイン」が先頃まで開催されていました。その関連イベントとしてドイツ文化センターで行われたレクチャーに参加した私。時間の都合で、二部構成のレクチャーの前半部分しか聞く事ができなかったんですが（残念！）、とても興味深いものだったので、ここでちょっと紹介したいと思います。

第一部「モダンデザインの思想とブラウン」の講師は、武蔵野美術大学の向井周太郎名誉教授。向井教授は50年前の1956年に、戦後のバウハウスと言われたドイツ、ウルム造形大学に留学。当時ウルム大ではブラウンから依頼を受け、共同でデザイン開発を行っていたそうですが、後にその美しさゆえに「白雪姫の棺」と呼ばれるようになるレコードプレーヤーの「オーディオSK4」の試作品を目にして「透明感があり温かいそのデザインに感動した事をよく覚えている」と語ってくれました。

50年前から変わらず、シンプルで端正なデザインを貫いてきたブラウン。向井教授は、ブラウンのデザイン哲学や、それを支えるヨーロッパの歴史的文脈、社会的背景をわかりやすく解説してくれました。父マックス・ブラウン(Max Braun)が創業した町工場を引き継いだ息子エルヴィン・ブラウン(Erwin Braun)。エルヴィンにモダンデザインとは何かを教え、つよく影響を与えたフリッツ・アイヒラー(Flitz Eichler)の言葉が特に印象に残ったのでここで紹介します。

「・・・人びとの家庭は欲求不満を紛らわす舞台装置ではなく、簡潔で、実用的で、しかも趣味があり、快適でなければならない。我々の製品は、内容も外観も、このような家庭にふさわしく正直なものでなければならない・・・」

派手さや目新しさを求めるのではなく、誠実で美しいデザインを目指すブラウン。ブラウンのデザインを中心としたブランド哲学の誕生からから今年で50年。これからも変わらずシンプルで使いやすい製品を私達に届けてくれることでしょう。

「ブラウン展」は、「日本におけるドイツ年2005/2006」公式イベントです。

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
