Making Christmas Glitzy

A glamorous snowman or Santa for your tree in the “motif ornament” collection from German Inge Glas - of course available in japan: at Daikanyama Christmas Company, an Xmas decoration specialty store open year-round in Daikanyama.

In the Western worlds, ’tis the season for colour, sparkle and frills. Right. In case you haven’t noticed, it’s Christmas! Whereas in Japan, it’s just another welcomed occasion to decorate your immediate environment with lots of glitzy fun stuff. So, as the (hopefully fake) tree is still the centrepiece of all holiday festivities, it’s only appropriate to deck it out: Set the Christmas tone with your personal ornament style whether it’s traditional and classy, or cute and whimsical. For more inspiration, take a look at the cutest decoration PingMag found:

Our first find is the traditional Christmas “glass ornament”. However, even if it is so typical, these ornaments are a bit different! Made of the finest glass in the Czech Republic, they are delicately crafted in pink and gold colours and come in adorable shapes.

These Czech glass ornaments are beautiful with colourful pink and gold colours. Priced from ¥800. (Daikanyama Christmas Company)

Sparkling lines dress up the tree - where’s the illumination? (Daikanyama Christmas Company)

Though not for real in Tokyo, then at least snowflake drawings! (Daikanyama Christmas Company)

Another tree decorated with tons of most colourful glass ornaments. (Daikanyama Christmas Company)

Replace that old star with unique “Tree Tops”, also from the Czech Republic. To add the European design and vibrant colour to your Asian tree.

Is that the Shanghai TV tower? No, these unique-shaped “Tree Tops made in Czech” are a saprkling accent. Price: ¥6,300. (Daikanyama Christmas Company)

This ornament [image below] is made from a glass material by Inge Glas, a traditional handicraft maker from Germany. Like pottery, it is soft to the touch and will be a glazing, pearly coloured entity in your living-room. Santa in a car is just the start - there are many other to choose from in the collection. And the hook attachment is star-shaped. Cute!

Felt on a tree - for a warm extra! (Daikanyama Christmas Company)

The Japanese version: Origami Santa Clause!

Santa Clause commutes, too. Reindeer is off for holidays.

A porcelain Santa Clause to put on the shelf or on the tree. Afterwards, it still can be used as a mug. (Daikanyama Christmas Company)

The traditional Christmas colours are red, white and green. So, use plenty of that, it can’t be enough!

The red and white reindeer ornament decorated with nice and cosy patterns.

What? This looks like the “floater” in fishing equipment. Still cute.

A bell ornament using the finest lace.

The “Dessert Ornaments” made in the U.S.A. are actually put in tin-liners and look so real. Careful no-one eats them!

No, you are so not eating these! One set of three ornaments is ¥2,625. (Daikanyama Christmas Company)

However, by now you must definitely feel peckish, so these Santa-shaped real cookies and chocolates are just made for you. They might not last the season once the other kids discover yummy choco hanging in the tree!

Chocolate Santa Clause ornaments…

… to fly in your mouth!

Now, we are getting glamorous: The star, flower and snow crystal ornaments glitter in the light for your personal wintery world in the living room.

A powder snowball…

… and a silver flower (or a frost pattern, depending on your room temperature.)

A golden star, glitzy version…

…and the fluffy crystal.

The wooden ornaments, again made in Czech Republic, bring us the warmth of a forest. Here, they tell even more a story as Santa Clause secretly brings presents. How about a collection then?

What will Santa Clause give for a present…? Wooden ornament made in Czech Republic, price: from ¥1,800. (Daikanyama Christmas Company)

Another Czech one: This is some crescent moon! (Daikanyama Christmas Company)

Wooden delicacy! The angels are praying under the stars - or in front of the curtain.

We love the Czech! They bring us also a sculpted-glass snowman, an eggshell carefully painted with playing children, mushrooms and the classic Nutcracker ornaments. All handmade!

No doubt, the white stands against the glass.

This precious ornament is a recycled delicate eggshell!

Oh my, how can something be that cute! Soft knit kid with giant cap. (Daikanyama Christmas Company)

Raver’s Xmas! The mushrooms might bring quirky wonder.

This Czech “Puter’s Ornament” is from the traditional Nutcracker story. Price: from ¥2,000. (Daikanyama Christmas Company)

We kept this for last: a gorgeous gold bell for your deluxe tree! Glitz has no limits!

The gold bell ornament will blind your eyes - but hey, it’s Christmas!

We dearly thank the Daikanyama Christmas Company for their help. As we remember from previous incidents, don’t get hurt while decorating the tree!

  4. Love those Czech handblown glass ornaments. There’s a large Czech population near me, and my parents used to sell imported Czech Christmas ornaments in their store. Of course my Mom picked out the best pieces for our family decorations, so we had all sorts of vintage 1960s and 70s handmade glass ornaments. I hear they’re fantastically collectible now, since they’re so fragile and so few have survived the years.

  5. yes, our ornaments are well know all over the world, but i have to say, that we don’t believe in santa claus…the presents bring baby jesus…the fact, that here you can see santa is just for the reason we sell it to countries where thay believe so…

i just had to say that…
