Illustration Series #10: Wisut Ponnimit

Wisut Ponnimit drew a 'Wild Boar', the Chinese zodiac for the year 2007, smiling at one of his favorite characters

Thailand’s cult cartoonist Wisut Ponnimit came to live in Japan a little while ago to develop a new way of drawing: Japanese-manga-inspired, yet very distinctly ‘Wisut’ drawings. Introducing innocent and cute characters acting in an “everyday setting” he manages to twist plain stories, adds some magic, witty ideas and love. Stirring all these elements, he manages to pin-point what is so human, fragile and true about life.

Wisut, please describe what you do to make a living in your own words.

I do what I can do.

How was last year for you?

The highlight was to make a cartoon book with a big company like Shinchosha in June. A nice suprise were the reactions of my fans when my new animation DVD “Tum kun anime green” and “Tum kun anime yellow” were released in November. Downers were having to work too hard.

What are you looking forward to in the new year?

Doing less, but better work!

Thanks a lot, Wisut!
