Illustration Series #6: Przemek Sobocki

Przemek: I designed a 'Wild Boar', the Chinese zodiac for the year 2007 as some kind of "golden statue" standing on a TV. Golden, as the next year will be golden for me and I like the idea of the TV screen light glooming somewhere in a dark room...

Przemek Sobocki was featured on PingMag in April last year when he just arrived to live in Japan. Now, a little later, we asked him how things have been moving along - and if he could draw a little new year card for us…

Przemek, you do a lot of editorial illustration (mostly fashion related), “big-scale-paintings” and just set up a new brand called FouR… How was last year for you overall?

I changed my life completely - from London to Tokyo! Met amazing people over here, did two exhibitions: one in Tokyo and one in Osaka.

I learned that those phrases like “trust yourself”, “be honest with yourself” and “Let it flow”- really work!!! Also that things you really crave for happen when you really stop “carving” for it. But the most important thing I learnt is to be humble and appreciate everything you get everyday! …well, I’m still learning that actually! (grins)

A recent highlight of the year is the biggest drawing I completed in Japan so far - the one for KleinDythamArchitecture.

What are you looking forward to this year? Any new year resolutions?

Usually I don’t make any new year resolutions, as I break them just after creating them…

My plans are to work more on my brand and do more collaborations as an illustrator and designer. I also think about in which “direction” my art work should go, maybe finding myself an agent…? But basically I just want “more” of what I am doing already.
