Illustration Series #4: Toshi Ota + Keeda Oikawa

"Mixed 2006 -Ouistiti-" (models:YUMI & KYOU KITAYAMA, FRANCE + JAPAN) Very traditional image of Japanese new year with Japanese drums, Wadaiko. Models are a brother and a sister who are half Japanese and half French.

On our 25th of May article about Gallery Ef, a 130 year old Japanese storehouse in Asakusa, we already introduced Toshi Ota + Keeda Oikawa. Their beautifully work has a comfortable and exquisite balance of photography and illustration which is almost like breathing at the same speed.

Toshi Ota is a photographer + Keeda Oikawa is an illustrator.


“Mixed 2006 -Ouistiti-” (Model:TAKU FIMAND, FINLAND + JAPAN) Taku is half Finnish and a half Japanese. The motif is Finnish Christmas ornament and aurora.

“Mixed 2006 -Ouistiti-” (Model:NINA UCHIDA, U.S.A + JAPAN) Nina is a half American and a half Japanese. Toshi and Keeda were inspired by the Stars and Stripes.

How was 2006 for you?

It was the year of mixing hundreads of illustrations and photos.

What is your plan for the new year?

In March, we have an exhibition of our “LE PITTORESQUE AU JAPON” series at Liechtenstein museum in Feldkirch, Austria organized by Gallery Ef. And we are also going to do a VJ stage art collaboration with a clarinet player from Austria in April.
