PingMag 2.0!

p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p-ping!

Surprise! Welcome to the all-new PingMag! Now hold on, before you start clawing at your face screaming “WHYY DID THEY CHANGEEE ITTT” allow us to explain…

PingMag V2 is more focussed on you, the user. We’ve made it a whole lot easier to just click around and find interesting content. We’ve upped the font size. We’ve stopped confusing you by putting some content on the left and some content on the right. In addition to this, PingMag V2 is a result of the evolving needs of the people who write for PingMag - for example we now have the same nice, wide area for our daily articles as we do for our bigger articles.

So lets take a look at what’s new on PingMag V2!

New side panel

Previously on PingMag

Firstly, as you can see we have a new side panel where you have two rows of lovely links for you to click around in. The first row is “Recent Features”, which will be a constant record of the last 10 “features” (our new name for the “big” articles on PingMag) on the site. The second row is “From The Archive”, which is our way of recommending older articles that you might not find unless you are rooting around in the archives - there is a lot of big-name stuff such as the Sagmeister interview and the ELM Design article that would be a real shame if they just faded away into our archives forever. It’s also a great way for new visitors to PingMag to see exactly what we are all about, by seeing our latest features and our older, “classic” features all in one handy place.

Second, at the bottom of every article now there is a “Previously on PingMag” section, which shows links to the 3 articles previous to the one you are viewing. This is a quick way of seeing more content at a glance and is especially handy if you don’t visit PingMag everyday, so you can easily see what you’ve missed. ALTHOUGH OF COURSE you should be visiting every day.

Category Archives

Date Archives

PingMag is now super organised! We’ve added categories and have categorised all our content, so you can browse the PingMag archives by category or by date. Not everyone comes to PingMag looking for the same thing, so those of you with particular interests such as “events” or “products” - you can now simply browse the category archives to find articles you like.

However for those of you who are happy to browse through PingMag regardless of topic (note that this is a website with subject matter ranging from puking geishas, to interviews with world-renowned typographers, to articles about Japanese retro toy shops) then you are very welcome to enjoy all the variety by browsing through the monthly archives.

Say hello to two BRAND SPANKING NEW features for PingMag!

BRAND SPANKING NEW feature 1, PingMag now has a funky Googlemap. And why not? After all, it seems that many of PingMag’s articles are related to a particular location in one way or another - for example articles about art or music events, or the great articles we get from our overseas contributors - so why not put it all on a map? Click around, see where we’ve been - and maybe suggest where we should go?

BRAND SPANKING NEW feature 2, presenting the PingMag Podcast! From now on, all PingMag Seminars will be offered as a video podcast. You will have the option of downloading directly from the PingMag website, or alternatively, subscribing to the PingMag iTunes channel (currently being created). Our latest seminar was a great lecture on the more human side of architecture (the way a building smells, feels, the kinds of sounds it makes etc) from architectural researcher Usman Haque. The video is being prepared as we speak so we expect to launch the PingMag Podcast Vol.1 by the end of this week.

Anyway that’s enough from me for now. On behalf of the PingMag V2 Team, I hope you all enjoy using the new site and playing with the new features. It’s been a tough time making the switch but we think it has been well worth it! Bye!

  2. I’m as excited as a reader of the changes as you, as the producers are, but there were quite! a lot! of exclamations! in this write-up! (Comes off a bit adolescent)

Anyway, I didn’t mind the 10pt Arial of the previous design, but I do like the other changes and reorganization. Keep up the good work(!)

  3. I’m surprised it even came off as adolescent, seeing as how I, the writer, have the mind of a 5 year old child. Glad you like the organisational changes at least. Keep reading, and I promise I’ll keep the exclamation marks to a minimum next time.
