Xbox 360 fancy face plates!

PingMag went to the opening day of the Xbox Lounge - a store to promote Microsoft’s new video game console the Xbox 360 - nestled in an unlikely location near Harajuku, rubbing shoulders with Gucci, Prada and Burberry…hmmm…

The overall set up of the store / lounge has taken a few aesthetic cues from the Apple stores - lots of minimalist white - but dotted about are splotches of green to remind you that the main theme is the Xbox (with it’s bright green logo).

Visitors are welcome to sit down on a sofa and enjoy playing the new console in a relaxed atmosphere - you can even order drinks and snacks. I’ve been calling the place a “shop” but really, it’s more like a giant advert for the new console.

What was interesting for PingMag readers though, was the small collection of “celebrity face plates” that decorated the room. The new console has a removable front face plate which allows you to swap and change different designs - the same way with some mobile phones. For this Tokyo store Microsoft had given blank face plates to a number of Japanese celebrities - singers, comic artists, sports personalities etc, and had asked them to create a unique design. Some of the creations were great, although unfortunately they were not for sale.

  3. Another participatory exhibits. Choosing one photo from here, you have to find same image from the hundreds of pictures on the wall. So, which country is your picture from? You can use　binocle.
