2 kilo of Kesselskramer- that was not only the name of the event- but also what I carried around all night causing my current muscle ache in my right arm. It all started with a friendly man in a construction worker suit giving you “something to throw away” in the shape of a 2 kilo brick and a few walnuts: “something to snack!” Duidelijk! - as the Dutch say. This event just had to be a winner! There were cool projections, a great crowd of people (who was NOT there, actually?) and free drinks- but all this was almost nothing compared to what really took all my attention: garden gnomes!!!! A throw, kill and win installation, that was simply convincing. Everyone was cueing up to throw their massive brick trying to hit an innocent garden gnome shivering on a big log waiting for his execution. Even though those little fellows were really cute, I could not wait for my turn. Who ever managed to shatter the friendly painted piece of clay got their brick exchanged for another one: a 2 kilo brick for 2 kilo of kesselskramer- a book loaded with all of their projects- heavy stuff, I tell you!
The rest of the evening was a very pleasant talk with all kind of design folks, slightly sweating under the weight of their precious present. At one point, Kesselskramer Marc told me, that there actually was a proper purpose for the event: “We opened a branch in Tokyo on Omotesando! Some over to play, soon!” I sure will! So long, and thanks for the brick!
