Goethe Institute, the German Culture Center is seriously busy this year, organizing all kind of events for the German Year in Japan. Friday night was the opening party of moDe! - a series of events featuring German and Japanese fashion, dance music and arts. The first fashion exhibition features fashion mainly from Munich and Cologne and can be seen at the Hillside Terrace in Daikanyama. Free entrance!
dXj Nations, the big opening party night was held at Ageha, the biggest and most prestigeous club in Tokyo. It was pretty packed and the music was a supreme mix of German and Japanese sounds: blow-your-ears-away-sound in the tent space with Masanori Morita, hard beats in the Rose Room with Mayuri from Metamorphose and Heigo Tani from Co-fusion. For those, who preferred to chill out at the pool area, Oscar Melzer (F.U.N), Miku (cyclone) and Haribo Carnival, a Japanese interactive visual project performed for you. The main floor had Shinichi Osawa from Mondo Grosso and the International Deejay Gigoloswith Richard Barts, Savas Pascalidis and main act Dj Hell. I was indeed very surprised to find out, that scary sounding Hell is simply called Helmut: a really sweet guy with a good sense of humor. Before starting his set, he spontaneously decided to sit in that Golf GTI decorating the stage- to come closer to the crowd and study their faces.
“I guess I have to modify my set a little….” he realized with a smile. DJ Hell continued chatting while Dj-ing and sipping champagne. When I told him, that I liked his music he grinned and said: “Well, it’s really German!”
For those, who have missed the show: DJ Hell gets invited to Japan every year. His next gig will be at the Wire festival in July .
