Finally, Dorkbot came to Tokyo. Although this is the land of otakus- it wasn’t half as geeky as expected- or maybe Japanese can hide it better? Super Deluxe got turned into a big playground once again- and beneath the playful facade of goofing around, experimentalists revealed some true secrets. Most fun for me was the “DNA cooking” by Biopresence: simple cooking instructions of how to make your own DNA visible. The general goal of Biopresence is to introduce human characteristics to a plant, without changing the genes of the resulting plant. For example, they had this idea of extracting human DNA and preserving it within a tree, changing only the base sequences but not in a way that would cause changes in the tree life-form itself. That way, one could theoretically live on, while being dead already. Sounds a bit quirky, but it seems like there are many people interested in spending a little fortune on that idea, already. Biopresence gave a little introduction to their DNA- extracting here, similar to the workshop they did for the ICC, where they are currently part of the Open Nature exhibition.
In the end, one could observe that nice spiral in the test tube with your own eyes. Nice to see that once so close! If that wasn’t enough- you could order special DNA-cocktails at the bar on top of it.
